How do to choose good books?
Like choosing orange juice there is a very important basic principle at work.
I trust the store that sells the juice. People who run the store have their
reputation on the line. If they sell rotten food, word will get around and they
will suffer the consequences.
As a Christian, however I cannot trust the secular book sellers to know what
is rotten and what is good. This is where I really encourage all Christians to
buy from Christian book sellers, whether online or in the store itself.
These Christian book sellers need our business and we need their commitment
not to sell garbage. If your city or town does not have a local Christian
bookseller you can purchase books online.
Why you should buy from Christian online booksellers and not the larger well known
online booksellers. Many of the larger well known online booksellers that do
carry Christian books also commit their corporate dollars to many programs that
we as Christians cannot support morally.
When your dollar goes to these mega booksellers you are enlarging another
kingdom's borders.
When your dollar goes to a Christian bookseller online, you are contributing to
the promotion of God's kingdom on earth. A portion of your money is most definitely
being tithed on, given in offerings to works of the gospel etc.
You don't have to reinvent the wheel
When you choose from a reputable Christian bookseller, they will be able to give you
suggestions, book reviews, author profiles, all tools that help you choose a book
you've never read.
