Because I Love You by Max Lucado, illus. by Mitchell Heinze A Celebration of Love Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not this year, you can celebrate the love of God with a little help from Max Lucado's "Because I Love You"; a Christian children's book celebrating unconditional love it is an allegory of God the Father's care and loving design of man's free will.
In it you'll meet Shaddai, an appropriately named gentle old man who embodies love. He cares for children and has built a special place where children can live and play in safety. This beautiful place has a tall wall all around it to keep the dark and dangerous things of the forest away from the children.
A Simple Example of Free Will When Shaddai built the wall he left a hole intentionally; when asked why he left the hole there, he replies, "Because I love you." He explains how the children are ultimately free to leave of their own free will should they want to. He wants the children to stay with him because they love him not because they have to.
For Children of all ages Mitchell Heinze beautifully illustrates it. A love story which echoes of God the Father's love for us. I especially like how Max Lucado deals with the curious child who sneaks out the hole to the forest.
I would recommend this book for all age levels. There is a board book format for durability that you can read to very young children and the hardcover version would make a lovely gift for a child of any age. All those who are children at heart will love this book.
