St. Patrick's Confession Who was St.Patrick and what did he believe? Although he lived over fifteen hundred years ago, we can actually discover a lot about St. Patrick by a story he wrote. His own autobiographical account called "Confessio" which is Latin for confession.
Unlike what the name implies, this is not a confession of sins as we would presume but rather a very bold confession of faith. Kidnapped at sixteen he became a slave Did you know St.Patrick was not Irish? Born in Britain he was kidnapped at sixteen, he was sold as a slave and carried over to Ireland. It was there and under tremendous hardships that he repented and committed his life into God's hands and became a believer. This would change the destiny of a whole country and some think even western civilization. Here is an excerpt: "I pray those who believe and fear God, whosoever deigns to look at or receive this writing which Patrick, a sinner, unlearned, has composed in Ireland, that no one should ever say that it was my ignorance if I did or showed forth anything however small according to God's good pleasure; but let this be your conclusion and let it so be thought, that---as is the perfect truth---it was the gift of God. This is my confession before I die." - from St. Patrick's confession translated from the Latin by Ludwig Bieler.1 You can read the whole confession at: Read St.Patrick's Confession Online
